He stood by the roadside,
a rucksack slung over his back,
boots worn down by miles,
a cardboard sign in his hand.
I rolled down my window.
“I’m sorry,” I said.
“This is all I have.”
Seventy-six cents.
Loose change pressed into his palm.
He looked at me with eyes that carried years.
“It’s what you have,” he said softly.
“It’s a blessing. Big or small,
that’s all God asks of us—
to share when we can, what we have.”
He stepped back, nodded once.
“May God send you a big blessing.”
And then he walked on.
The light turned green.
I drove forward,
watching him shrink in the mirror
until he disappeared from view.
Big or small—
each offering is a blessing.
Each moment, a gift.
